Who needs a relationship with God?

Humans are God's ultimate creation. God made us in His image so that He could have a relationship with us. We are the only creatures on earth that this can be said about. God made us so that we could choose to worship and enjoy Him.

Unfortunately, the first two humans, Adam and Eve, chose to disobey God. Although they were created sinless and given a wonderful paradise to live in, they chose, as we would have, to follow their own desires for something they thought was better. This plunged them and their descendents, the entire human race, into sin. Since then, all people have been born as sinners and live contrary to God's plan, with no hope to save themselves from the resulting judgment and separation from God that sin brings.

Since we have been made to know God and to worship Him, we can never achieve true happiness apart from a relationship with God. That is why all of us need a relationship with Him and why life tends to feel empty and meaningless without Him. Because of this reality, and because God wants a relationship with us, He did something extreme to repair this breach between us, He sent Jesus to die on the cross.

Why did He die?

Sin demands death as punishment because God is a holy, just God who cannot allow wrong actions to go unpunished. So He punished His Son Jesus in our place. Jesus took our shame, our blame, willingly. Don't think, however, that God is dead. Three days later Jesus Christ arose from the dead. His followers came to anoint His body and it was gone! To their surprise He met with them, walked with them, and even ate with them. He had won complete victory over sin and the grave. Of what other "god" can that be said?

Because of this wonderful sacrifice and display of power, we can have complete forgiveness of sins and a relationship with Jesus Christ. Have you ever accepted this gift? Have you ever placed your trust in Christ? He wants to help you, so why not come to Him? Admit to Him that you are a sinner and that you need His complete forgiveness. Tell Him you want to turn from your sinful ways, and make Him the leader in your life. He promises He will, if you will only ask.

Just believe and ask...

In the Bible, in the book of Romans chapter 10 verses 9 and 10 God says, "that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation." Why not ask Him today? Then call and tell us here at First Baptist. We would love to give you a Bible if you don't already have one, some study materials to guide you, and most of all a family to help you on your spiritual journey with Christ.
